Where the numbers come from

Two very different kinds of number appear on this site, and it matters which is which.

• Observed data — prices, dividends, exchange rates and reported financials. These come from third-party providers. They can be delayed, revised, mis-mapped to the wrong ticker, or simply missing. Cross-check anything that surprises you against your broker or the company's own filings.
• Derived figures — fair value, margin of safety, implied return, projected EPS, annualised return, drawdown. These are computed from assumptions you entered. They are the mathematical consequence of your inputs and carry no independent authority.

What a valuation model cannot do

The intrinsic value calculator projects earnings, applies an exit multiple and discounts the result. That is a useful discipline for structuring your thinking. It is not a forecast. It assumes a single flat discount rate, ignores changes in capital structure beyond what your earnings path already implies, and has no view on whether your growth rate or terminal multiple is remotely plausible. Small changes to those two inputs move the answer enormously — which is the point of the exercise, not a flaw in it.

What past performance means

The returns, drawdowns and volatility shown for your portfolio describe what already happened. They say nothing reliable about what happens next. A strategy can look excellent for years and still be fragile. Past performance is not indicative of future results.

Risk

All investing involves risk, including the permanent loss of capital. Equities can and do fall to zero. Cryptocurrencies are highly volatile and largely unregulated. Foreign-currency holdings add exchange-rate risk on top of market risk. Leverage magnifies both directions. Never invest money you cannot afford to lose.
